i been thinking about one of these for some time for my scout 800 .
mainly for the dome light .
Not sure there is any interest from others in this but ill post what I did , just in case .

While my 800 has a working light on the bottom of the dash , it doesn’t give much light in the early morning when im gathering my gear to head out on a hunt.
A few months back I was rummaging around the local Pick-a- part and was looking at the long over heads in the Blazers .
I was thinking that not only did these give two map lights up front but also a large dome light and two map lights in the back. It also had the trip computer , temp and compass display . So I picked one up from a 97 with the temperature sender thinking that I could modify it somehow so as to fit in my scout . Cost was 5.00 .

After getting home I test fit it between the front window and my roll bar . It was about about an inch to long . However there was plenty of room to cut down the back end .

Next was alittle research as to what was needed to my the cheep computer with all those bells and whistles to work . While that wasn’t really important I figured . HA, its there so if I can get it to work , great . If not , well not a big issue .
First thing I found out was that it works off the VSS sensor connected to the ECM .
I don’t have a VSS .
Top that off GM changed VSS out put in 1997 and im running a early ECM . So the signal would be wrong .
After doing some reading I found instructions on one of the chevy forums on how to test the module. As it turned out , mine didn’t work .
Then I read on another forum that the module from pre-1997 will fit into the later consoles . So I pulled it . Returned it to PaP for a working module from a 1995 .
The 95 only has a temp and compass
So now when I get a VSS installed that will work like it was designed to do .

But anyway . Yesterday I got around to working on the console project for my 800 .
First thing I did was build a tube bracket from 21/4 cromoly , which the console would mount between . This bolts to the windshield frame using the factory hard top bolt locations .
The rear bolts to the roll bar…
I then welded in a couple 1/8 plates to match the consoles original mounting locations .
I mounted the console in place and then wired up the Temp lead , power , ground and ran a lead down to my dash so that when I do get a VSS I can hook that up .

Hit the key and everything light up and turned off but the dome light . Then it dawned on me that the dome light works off of the door switch . So to get around that I wired in a toggle switch into the garage door opener compartment so as to be able to turn that light on and off ..
Now I needed to seal the top part off . So looking out in my scrap pile I found a piece of diamond plate . Cut it to size and mounted it smooth side up .
This morning I pulled out the sewing machine and did up some quick roll bar pads to cover the tubes .
So here is my overhead console all mounted up .

Dome light toggle switch location

view from the Top

some day ill take the console down and change out the light brown trim fabric to a grey that matchs my interior.

so there you have it . my new overhead console all wrapped up in a nut shell .

Sorry…I was wrong (ouch), it was not seven dollars as I first stated. I went back and looked and it was eight. I hope you can forgive me. All right …here we go. I was looking for a cable throttle to fit my 1968 800A with a 266 in it. The catalogue cables I found were a bit too expensive for me so I decided to go hunting and I found gold in a 1972 Buick Skylark with a v-8 in it. I removed everything from the carb to the pedal. This particular pedal is for an auto. You can see the extra cable tab at the top of the pedal for the trans. kick down. I left the tab on the pedal in case I ever decide to go with an automatic transmission. The only modification I made to the pedal was to remove the carpet trim edge on the plastic mount. The cable bung at the fire wall requires a square hole so I drilled a hole and then used a file to square it up. The upper bracket is from the Buick, and the lower bracket started life as a Simpson strong tie right angle bracket that I had laying around. I bent the longer side about an inch up and at about 40 degrees. I then welded a tab on the right side to match the hole width on the manifold, notched and shaped the last inch below the bend to fit around the intake manifold and used the existing manifold bolts to mount the bracket. The upper bracket requires only one bolt and has a tab that requires about a 3/16” hole to complete the mount. The cable from firewall bung to ball joint is approx. 17” in length. When I first installed it the pedal was short of full throttle by about a ¼” to 3/8”. I moved the ball on the carb linkage and by some happy coincidence everything worked out. The pedal bottoms at the floor at full throttle so there was no need to install a stop on the floor. Had there been a need for additional adjustment my plan was to heat and bend the pedal rod. If anyone is interested enough to want actual measurements I can get those for you next week.

I have a friend all he runs is full synthetic motor oil in his cars and he says i should run 10w-40 or 10w-30 full synthetic in mine, i have told him that will just possibly tear up my old scout motor something this old was never designed for such oil it was made to handle standard oil and if what i learned is right back in the 60s and 70s that was this one brand of oil that had wax in it to make the oil slicker.

Im telling him the most im willing to go is possibly 10w-40 high milage. What is yalls inputs on this? 79 Terra 345, 727 auto, 3.54 gears. What do u guys recommend???, i just ran Castrol GTX 10w-30 on the last change with Wix filter and Lucas stabilizer.

It is just a 1/2 ton but still the most i do with it is ride i hardly do any heavy pulling/pushing or hauling, and if i do its probably less then once or twice every 2 or 3 months. I know a scout and no hard work...... but think about this GAS PRICES, and i love it being just a DD most the time.

Its a 1995 F350 4x4 Powerstroke with the ZF5 manual trans. 251k miles. Has about 6" of lift with 4.10 gears and 38.5x14.50 SS TrXus MTs on 18x12 Weld Racing aluminum wheels. Open intake and 3.5" downpipe to 5" exhaust. Gooseneck hitch in the bed. Has anti-wrap bar in the rear, and I still have the stock springs if you're interested in those. 6 position Tony Wildman tuning chip with stock injectors. Right now I average a solid 15mpg every tank. Runs strong, mechanically good. Its my DD now and I just drove it to and from Yakima without issue. Needs a new parking brake cable. Has issues, definitely not perfect, but drives very well.

I'm asking $6000, but I'd like to sell it soon as its just not what I need and I have other bills to take care of, so if you're interested, make an offer. Tons more info, so feel free to ask questions. I'm easily reached by email at john.tyler4@hotmail.com or by call or text at 509-939-0028. Located in North Spokane.

Ugh, ok, on to the next issue. Evidently a large quantity of gas made its way into the crankcase. That's something to troubleshoot later, but I digress. As a result of that, some oil was forced out of the dipstick tube. In an effort to clean that up, I hit the engine bay with the power washer. I was careful to stay away from the relays, distributor and bulkhead connectors, though they definitely got splashed with water/oil mix. That was yesterday evening. Tonight, I was going to set my timing, but obviously something went wrong with the cleanup. It fired up right away, but immediately started running rough, and stalled a minute later. I tried to crank it a couple of times with it firing but not catching. After a couple of tries, it's not turning over anymore. The battery definitely isn't dead, I suspect something is wet that shouldn't be, but I'm not sure what to check or how to resolve it. The starter relay clicks, that is all that happens at the moment.

I am selling my T-34 overdrive transmission. This transmission made my truck nice to drive on the highway back in the day. I am upgrading my truck to a modern electronically controlled transmission and no longer need the T-34 five speed Od. Price is $800.00 firm, or trade for a nice I.H. Garand rifle. Includes everything to install in a sixties or seventies pickup. I invested about $1600 dollars into acquiring the transmission and other parts about ten years ago. I also converted the clutch actuator over to a hydraulic system versus a cable operated clutch system. Rick Pratt at Snohomish transmission in Snohomish, Wa. checked the whole package out back then and did some minor work on it. Free transport to the Binder Bee near Spokane, Wa. with deposit.
Located in Mount Vernon, Wa.

Included:

T-34 Overdrive Tranmsiion
Bell housing
Cross member
Hydraulic slave cylinder and head bracket
Clutch master cylinder and hydraulic hose
13" HD Clutch and Flywheel
Throwout bearing
Jack shaft for 4X4 applications requiring a transfer case
NP 205 transfer case (need your own shift linkage)
