Need help with transmission swap

I have a 1971 800B with a 345, 3 speed and Dana 20 with a cable type clutch linkage.

I want to swap a T18 from a 1976 Scout II with a 304 and what I would call a lever type clutch linkage.

Can this be done and what is necessary to hook up the clutch linkage properly?

Thanks if you can help.

Re: Need help with transmission swap

You may be able to use your existing bellhousing, look and see if it's drilled for the 4spd?

Re: Need help with transmission swap

I have already pulled the 4 speed and it had studs that stuck through the bell housing. Had to remove nuts inside the bell housing.

I can see that the 3 speed has bolts that come from outside and likely it's bellhousing has threaded holes.

I will be pulling the 3 speed and Dana 20 today.

Re: Need help with transmission swap

I did this swap on my '71 800B with the 304. I went to the 4 speed T-19. If you are getting the complete T-18 assy with bell housing and transfer case, the swap isn't too bad. I have a clutch cable that runs down to the linkage assy on the frame to bell housing. The linkage is clocked at a slightly different angle but it works just fine. You cannot use the 3 speed bell housing with the T-18 as the input shaft on the T-18 is longer than the 3 speed. Also, the spacer between the trans and transfer case is different. But like I said, if you are getting the complete assy from bell housing to tailshaft then it won't be a problem. You will have to change your trans mount out as the 3 speed won't fit. I ended up spending $7.00 on a mid '70's Jeep CJ trans mount and drilling a couple of holes in my crossmember. Works great. Andre.

Re: Need help with transmission swap

I picked up the whole 76 Scout II and plan to use the transmission, transfer case and bell housing.

Thanks for the info, it was exactly what I was looking for.

Did the original driveshafts work? If not, what did you use?

Thanks!

Re: Need help with transmission swap

Yes, the original driveshafts worked fine. The only thing I had to figure out was what to do with the mount. I really didn't want to spend $100.00 on a tranny mount so I looked around and came up with the Jeep one. I'll try to post a photo of it this weekend if I get a chance. Cheap and clean. When it splits they are readily available. Andre.
