Time flies -- It's getting closer!

Yep, my trip over to the land of freedom is getting closer. It's been a while since I visited the US and I'm really looking forward to once again having a few weeks of good time.
I'll fill this thread with questions a little later, right now I have to get something to eat. :)

Mmmm... Doughnuts... BBQ... <drool>...

We're touching down in Miami, Fl late at night the 21:st and the general plan is to take a peek at the Keys, then Orlando with Disneyland and Universal, then going up along the coast with a stop in Greensboro, NC to visit friends. Then on to Washington, DC to board the flight home.
Nothing much else planned, so suggestions are welcome...

First question would be for any good not too expensive places to stay in the Miami, Orlando area, and the Keys. :)

For places to stay check out www.Wyndhamrewards.com. They own lots of different motels/hotels in all price ranges. Also look for their route planner. Put in your starting and ending locations and it will provide a list of all their different properties along the way. You can also search all the properties in a given city. You can also book directly from there.

Defiantly try to get up to Washington DC in time to check out some or at least the main museum of the Smithsonian institute http://www.si.edu/.

We are planning to have a couple of days in DC and the Smithsonian is one place we'll visit. Other places on the list are Capitolium ans Arlington.

Oh, anybody know a place along the coast that has good roller coasters? That's one of my other passions and from what I heard there's some good stuff on your side of the pond. :)

The smithsonian is amazing. I hope you have a few days to see it all. As far as coasters on the eastern side, 6 flags in Atlanta has some but that might be out of the way. I think there might be some at Universal too.

Re: Time flies -- It's getting closer!

Ah, one week in the US and I'm still not fed up! That's a good sign.
Right now we're in Savannah, GA and we'll leave here tomorrow going towards Charlotte, NC. We'll probably stop over once before getting there though.

So, we did Disney, Universal Studios and Seaworld in Orlando, FL. Review is as follows: Disney was good, Universal was a disappointment, and Seaworld was really good.
Weather has been almost too hot, above 100 every day. But atleast I like it, and with enough water to drink it's ok.

So far it has been a good vacation, now it's gonna get even better! I'll just say "Carowinds"...

More tales later, maybe even some pics...

Savannah, one of my favorite places in the country. Tybee Island to be exact.

Re: Time flies -- It's getting closer!

So, we're home again... It has been an interesting trip with a little more than 2000 miles of driving through lots of "Americana". I've enjoyed myself, seen lots of nice things and met a lot of nice people.
Route has been: Miami FL -- Orlando FL -- Savannah GA -- Charlotte NC -- Snead's Ferry NC -- Washington DC.
Activities included (but not limited to): Miami Beach, Disneyworld, Universal Studios, Seaworld, Shopping, Carowinds, beaches at Topsail Island, Smithsonian museums (oy vey, lots of them), all the memorial stuff, Capitolium, etc.
All in all it has been a good trip and I'm very pleased with it. Only thing I miss a bit is all the old IH stuff... In fact, I didn't see one old International. Just a lot of "Big Three" stuff. *sigh*
