The new engine, transmission and transfer case, fuel tank and exhaust are all in. It needs the radiator, carb and engine harness to run. After that it still needs brakes and driveshafts and a few other odds and ends to button up.

Re: A Tale of Two Scouts

The 258 H.O. runs like a top and the lights are all working. We are getting the disc brakes installed on the front now, then it basically needs a longer draglink and driveshafts and it will be on the road for the first time in six years.

It's probably about as smooth as that stuff gets.

Will it still wear your skin off like sand paper?

Re: A Tale of Two Scouts

It has chunks of rubber in it, so it will always have some texture in it. I wouldn't spray it on my kid's backyard slide but I don't think it's unreasonably coarse to have on the inside of my vehicles.

Travis, for that comment I will have my Scout leave you an oil leak.... oh wait it already did!

Yes folks, the Scout is on the road! It needs a few things done, but it is alive again. This time with sports car steering!

Thanks Cory, I really owe you for this one. This Scout is making me really happy, or maybe it is the exhaust leak that is making me feel this way...

Re: A Tale of Two Scouts

I got this one back again, I sure like the color. It needs a bit of work. Anybody have a 4.27 dana 44 gearset laying around?

Cory, don't listen to Jens. Just bring that Scout on down to AZ, I'll make space for it, and I have a 4.27 I've been saving for it!!

Re: A Tale of Two Scouts

Thats it - I am offended on behalf of that lovely green scout so I am going to have to come and take it away from you.

Nah - it sounds like someone that shall remain nameless is uber excited about it and it will be going that way. I am Second best on this scout twice!

What does that say about how cory feels about me? Hmmmmmm....

Re: A Tale of Two Scouts

Better claim the other one now Jens before anybody else does. Send me a deposit and I can build you one just like this one.

I even found some affordable paint. $46 for a gallon.

So does any body have some 4.27s?

Re: A Tale of Two Scouts

Have you used that paint before? Im about to be building my '68 800 and wanted to use something close to the original Bahama Blue and noticed that they've got an aqua blue that looks alot like it I was just wondering if the colors on they're page are actually what it looks like when dry and how well it holds up

Re: A Tale of Two Scouts

I had the Omaha Orange on my old Scout II and it held up fine. I also have a gallon of the Tangerine collecting dust.

Thanks for the reply and posting the cheap paint find

I checked out they're testimonials page, I think im going to use that on both of my 800s Aqua on the '68 and either bronze or copper on the '66

Re: A Tale of Two Scouts

Shukmeister is the proud new owner of the old green scout. He brought his '74 Scout II, (which I think I might belong to me now, I'm not sure ) to remove the 4" lift springs, roll bar and nice seats to install into the green scout.

John is going to need to add a tissue dispenser to help him with the nosebleeds he will get from the new ride height. The 4" springs on top of SOA axles makes the 33s look pretty tiny.

Re: A Tale of Two Scouts

well...... I'm doing the math here. It started as a tale of 2 scouts, then Darrin added parts from the mustard scout. Now I've added parts from my orange scout, an Isuzu rodeo, a Jeep Cherokee, A cadillac El Dorado, and soon a Jeep wagoneer. Thats 4 scouts, 2 jeeps, a Caddy, and a rice grinding Isuzu.

So much for IH purity.
