My 1963 Rat Rod Scout 80 and my new 800b Comanche.

Hey gang, I'm rather new to the whole I.H. scene but I've wanted one my whole life and this year I sold my 2005 Jeep TJ after buying my first Scout, the '63. I fell in love with it so much that now I own another, an 800b which turned out to be a special edition Comanche model. Well here hey are.

'63 80:

-1950's 265ci V8
-SM465 4-speed(6.55:1 first gear)
-Spicer 18
-Dana44/27
-Travel Top
-Bucket Seats

Here are a few pics;

Engine, Ill have to post some before pics and some completed install pics...im in the middle of re-installing the 265!

Re: My 1963 Rat Rod Scout 80 and my new 800b Comanche.

Now here is the 1971 Comanche:

-304v8(disassembled)
-BW11
-dana20
-dana44/30
-A.C.!!!!
-COMANCHE!

Plans are to restore it with some nice new paint in the original Comanche theme, nice large tires and fix the ac and interior back to original while maybe throwing a Mopar V8 in front of a TF727.

I just got it so I am not sure what I want to do with it just yet.

Re: My 1963 Rat Rod Scout 80 and my new 800b Comanche.

I found the '63 in such bad shape, it barely ran, was full of cats and what they left behind. The whole rear bed was a mess. I wire wheeled the entire interior over the course of a month, re-upolstered the front seats which were ruined and painted everything once I got it down to the metal. The engine was so gunky I couldn't hardly make it out and it was running like crap. I took it out, inspected everything and found the block to be good but in need of a serious TLC session. I cleaned everything and am right now in the process of putting the engine together and I am only one headgasket away from lowering this bad boy back into the Scout. I found the distributor was the cause of the poor performance and will be rebuilding it as well. I also have to do the rear drive shaft u joints and replace the radiator but it should be roaring again in a few weeks. My goal is by my birthday on the 26th.

Nice start on your collection. Are you looking for acreage to accomodate your new addition?
Interesting that the Commanche has a 727,it would have come with a Borg Warner auto. I have a '70 pickup that someone had changed to the 727,which I prefer anyway.
Welcome aboard, Jon.

Well some time has passed and you can see I've made some progress. as you can see I went with an IH V8 instead of anything else. the Comanche is coming along and got an engine. It is a V345 with tf727 and dana20 combo. I am going to do the right paint eventually but until restore the interior the way it is will do.
Out for a drive:

Back together again.

Here's a few of the Comanche, notice the fresh yellow paint and new tires:

Might want to check numbers on that Chebby thing. IIRC, '57's were 283 ci. The 265 was '55/6 only. We got a mite confused here with the '56 Bel Air we're working on. After doing some digging, we found the 283 we thought we had was actually a 265 with 283 heads... Nice rigs, too

I ran the numbers, I wish it was a 283 but it came back as a 265 when I checked.

Re: My 1963 Rat Rod Scout 80 and my new 800b Comanche.

I may be wrong be a 1963 would have had a four banger in it? Somebody must have modded the scout and fit a V8 between the frame rails. The first IH V8's in the 80's were 266 not 265? 265 like you said is a chevy. Nice scout and that commache looks really sweet!! You've done a great job or bringing them back to running condition.
