I have converted my 304 IHC to Ford DuraSpark and have conflicting instructions on the use of a Ballast resistor. I have no resistance wire in the system so do I need one or not. I have varying opinions.
I'm sure Bill will come around with the official Duraspark answer but my understanding is the ballast resister is used only to prevent points from burning up quickly and is not used with electronic ignition.

The TFI coil upgrade does say to use the ballast resistor.
I don't run a TFI coil yet so I haven't verified it.
The ballast resistor is there to reduce the operating voltage of the coil. You still feed it 12v from the "S" or "I" term on the starter solenoid during cranking. The "I" term is preferred.
