  • Strange electrical gremlins

Just purchased a 1979 Scout II that has a re-occurring but not always occurring problem. At times the vehicle acts as if it has no battery power, even though all connections and the battery has been checked. Then strangely the problem dissapears and re-appears. One SWAG was the voltage regulator? If so where is it located? Any other hints? Thankx!

Regulator is internal on the alternator.
Why do you think it has a battery sometimes? The alt gauge will be straight up with no movement after a full charge.
Scouts have a notorious problem with the bulkhead connector at the firewall, check to see it is firmly pushed in. If you remove it check for burnt wires inside, do not remove the grease it is supposed to be there. Although my wifes 79 Scout II has a new style and is not a problem.
    Hope that helps!

Sounds like you could be having a bad ground problem to me.

Thanks guys, I was going on the previous owners input. Went down to pick it up on Saturday, cleaned the battery posts and it fired right up. Still had to tow it home but I've been riding it around and it seems to be doing fine.
