  • vacume advance on 304

I just had my 304 re-built, and its using oil........i was wondering if the timeing could be off caue the soild vacume advance. should it advance all the way on start up and stay advanced all the time?.....i know that is how my 258 was but i dont have a clue on this 304....thanks for the help...Mort

Vacuum advance should be hooked up to ported vacuum on the carb. Meaning as the throttle is opened the vacuum goes up and the timing increases. If you have vacuum on the hose at an idle, it is probably the wrong vacuum port. If you idle at under 800 then the timing should not change when you disconnect the vacuum line from the dist.
