Has anyone done a single wire out H.E.I. distributor for the I.H. 345 or 392? Is there info on how to build one or does anyone sell these?
I am not using T.B.I.
They are big and you have to change out the thermostat housing as well. It comes with the kit. Never heard back from anybody that has one. If you do let us know!

Thanks for the info. I am looking for someone who has done this that can share the technical details required to do this conversion.
Yes the GM style single wire coil in cap type distributor is what I am looking for.
Like Mark said, talk to D&C. Damian sells them and runs one on his T'all. He ought to know what it takes to install one, but it sounds to me like it's as easy as swapping out the t-stat housing, pulling the old dist. out and dropping the new one in.
Seems to be a distributor building craze going on here Mr.IH.
Maybe you just found a project to build?
I know from my Chevy days that the HEI coil in cap distributor was an excellent choice. I ran them forever and don't remember anything ever going wrong...
I can't think of a better distributor that has proven itself to start a non-fuel injected HEI ignition.

Does any body else other than D&C extreme sell complete unit's?
Ready to install.
I have run lots of G.M. H.E.I.'s over the years, they are great without a doubt. What I lack is the equipment to graft the G.M. top housing to the I.H. Dist. shaft.
Sorry I replied on the Fuel Injection forum but here is some information on a guy that can do these.
A guy in Colorado will convert your ditributor to a GM HEI ignition unit. He can do either style, large cap integral coil or a small cap extrnal coil. I have a picture of both here someplace but not sure at this time. The last one I had completed he charged $250 + needed the distributor. He does a great job but also is retired and enjoys his hunting and fishing. My point is you will not get it over night.
His name is Willis Green and his phone # is 719-545-8031.
If you want to go with the Small cap with the external coil it may give you the room you need. If you buy and use a Marine module for these it advances itself in the module and no ECM is necessary to operate it. Not sure what the cost of the module is but it is a marine application so expect some $$$.
Willis Green is the guy who builds them for D&C. D&C just sells them for Willis. You can also use the non-EFI version of the HEI module and retain your stock mechanical and vacuum advance if you're not planning on EFI.
Does that get rid of the gold box? Can you tell I'm not a fan of Gold box?

Yes! If you run that hei in cap coil distributor that is everything. One wire hook up as well. I have not seen one in an IH yet to see how much has to be removed from the thermostat housing though. But it has been done.

Here's a pic that Joe D. sent me of the Willis HEI he has/had on a 345. It's the non-EFI version. I'm not real found of how tall it is.... it appears to stick up above the top of the air cleaner.
That is high!
If you look at it though you can see why it is so high.
The spark plug wires would come out into the radiator hose. Looks like it clears the intake manifold?
Don't think it would bother anything up there?
I wish someone had a picture of the other side?
Did he have a body lift? Wondering about hood clearance?-

Doubt he has a body lift look at the fan shroud. It's prob an optical illusion. Bet it's about the same height as the air cleaner. BTW that Air cleaner looks smaller than stock.
