  • First drive 1964 80

Well today I was out working on the Scout, and decidede to take it on its first drive around the block. It hasn,t been driven in years, and I was very excitied to finally drive my Scout, but I do have a question about the electrical wiring. I have every thing hooked up but I do not have any brake lights or tail lights or head lights. I did replace the bulbs and the flasher modual, and I have one inline fuze that I replaced. I would appreciate any help. The Scout is a 1964 Scout 80 with a 152ci engine.

Congrats on getting it out for its first drive in a long time!! It's great to see an old rig brought back to life....

Have you gotten a service manual yet? Available at Binder Books or most of the other Scout vendors...

Have you gotten out your tester yet to see where you do and don't have power? For example, are you getting power to the flasher unit? To the headlight switch? I think a tester would be a good place to start. Several people have asked lately, and no, Scout 80/800's do not have a fuse panel!!!

Play with it, ask more questions....

      Scout Project

I went and purchased a tester the other day, and I began to test the wiring inside the dash. The tester is helping out alot. Slowly, and surely I,am getting the wiring checked out. Sometime this weekend I plan on changing the oil and the trans and t-case fluid. I appreciate the help that you have given me. I cannot wait tell I,am driving the Scout everyday, but I did purchase a manual from Superscout Specialist, and it is helping out extremly. Thanks!

Sounds like you are making progress then....don't be afraid to ask more questions, most people who play with old rigs have had to play with the wiring at some point...it's mostly a matter of tracing it out carefully, figuring out where the power is and isn't, where it's supposed to be and when...etc.....
