Rear Axle ID 1965 Scout Custom?

Hi, I have a 1965 Scout 4X4 that was originally ordered by the Toronto municipality for snow removal. (An older fellow got it after a year and kept it until this summer - only 23,000 miles!) I found that the rear axle has 11 inch hubs which I thought only came out on scouts in the late 60's early 70's models. The axle has
"44 I" marked on the back. Is this a dana 40 series? Guesses?

'65 probably more likely a D27.....but I know we used to have a '65 with a D44....is yours a Scout 80 or 800? I've been told that both were built that year......one easy way to tell is by the dash, whether it's a flat panel or an actual dash.....there's lots of other little things that'll give it away too. Fold-down windshield, tailgate fasteners, etc.

That D44 was used up until probably 1969, when they went to the one-piece flanged D44....
